Nourishing Conversations

Keep it fun and flowing

  • Turn off the TV (unless we’re landing on Mars or something). And no cell phones or video games at the table.
  • Fill a container with conversation starters like:
    • What do kids know more about than adults?
    • If you could have any view from your bedroom window, what would it be?
    • What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you?
    • Pick out a question and have everyone answer it.
  • Set expectations. For example, “We’re all staying at the table until everyone’s finished.”
  • Keep it light.
  • Avoid questions that can be answered, “Yes” or “No.” “Did you learn anything at school today?” “Did you go to soccer practice?” “Is that a real tattoo?”
